IS GATHERED FOR DANCERS, SINGERS, ACTORS, OR EVERYONE?

It was created for everyone. GATHERED is for the performer-in-training who wants to pursue a career in the arts. Equal focus will be given to all 3 disciplines: dance, voice, and acting. Dancers will be pushed to sing. Singers will be pushed to dance. Everyone will do it all... because that’s how we roll on Broadway!

HOW DO I REGISTER? IS THERE AN AUDITION?

Yes, you’ll need to submit a audition video. Instructions will be released in October.

Enrollment is capped at 40 students per session. Don’t wait too long. GATHERED sold out in 48 hours last year.

ARE THERE SCHOLARSHIPS?

There are no scholarships for GATHERED. We encourage our students to be active participants in financially making their dreams a reality by fundraising. The truth is that we find a way to make Disney, iPhones, and Nikes fit in our budget. We must do the same for arts education.

We've gathered 10 Fundraising Ideas to help you save up and make your Broadway Collective training a financial possibility!

And yes, we've had several students reach their fundraising goals because they made the commitment to overcome their circumstances. Whether it’s babysitting, mowing lawns, getting a part-time job after school, or crowdsourcing your funding, there’s a way to make this happen. You’ve got this!

No, airfare and hotel are not included. However, we’ve arranged a special discounted room rate at ROW NYC HOTEL, which is conveniently located in the heart of NYC’s theater district.

WHAT ARE THE PARENT’S RESPONSIBILITIES?

Each student under 18 years old is required to have a parent with them at GATHERED.

Parents are responsible for dropping their student off each morning in the ROW NYC HOTEL lobby at 7:30am sharp, and picking up their student from the lobby at the end of each day.

We kindly ask parents to refrain from joining us for meals and show outings. We have GATHERED chaperones to supervise students during those times.

During GATHERED, there will be 2 Parents-Only Sessions with founder of The Broadway Collective Robert Hartwell and his amazing mother Elizabeth. This is the time for parents to ask questions about the business and life in NYC that they may be too afraid to ask their child—and also, to find support in what can be such a daunting task of raising a young artist. These Parents-Only Sessions were a huge hit last year—and we look forward to doing these again!

Hello Broadway Live FAQ

National Tour Vs. Hello Broadway Live

Last year on our National Tour a student who has joined us faithfully each year said “this is my one Broadway day each year”. I was troubled by her statement because I know “one Broadway day a year” isn’t going to get her the results she wants.

When I opened The Broadway Collective I said our mission was to be the new standard of training Broadway’s next generation. That standard requires work, dedication, and frankly more than one day.

Do I love the National Tour? Oh my goodness, absolutely! We wouldn’t be here if we hadn’t done it for the past 4 years. But what I know for sure is that if you are looking to be competitive in this industry at any level (regional theatre, collegiate, or moving to NYC) you are going to have to be readily equipped in your skillset training.

What our team can do with students in 6 hours on the National Tour is out of this world, but what we do in our online training programs is where we see lasting transformation.

Our team wants to work with committed students who are ready to take the wild leap to work on their musical theatre training like a scholar looking to get into an Ivy League, or a young person training for the Olympic trials. Why that student? Because that’s the student that fulfills the mission of why we opened The Broadway Collective.

We have too much to offer to be a one day Broadway feel good event. That’s not how you’re going to fill the gaps in your training. I want wins for our students. I want your investments in your education to glean the results you’re working hard for–and I know our Hello Broadway curriculum is training students in a way that is unprecedented.

So when the choice is feeling good for a day vs. feeling good and having a curriculum based program to move the needle on your skills, my vote as Artistic Director is always going to be move the needle.

Where will Hello Broadway Live be held?

Hello Broadway Live is a one-day event in NYC with a 4-week online learning component before the live event. We will work out of Open Jar Studios–the biggest Broadway rehearsal studios in Manhattan!

Who can register for Hello Broadway Live?

WHAT IF I CAN’T DANCE / SING / ACT? SHOULD I STILL COME?

We don’t believe in the word “can’t”. We want you to become a more versatile performer.

The most successful Broadway Artists are well-rounded and train at all disciplines. We are here to help you develop a strong work ethic and a hunger to learn. Come with a positive attitude and willingness to embrace all elements of training!

I'm a parent. What do I need to prepare?

Hello Broadway Live is your child’s opportunity to experience the life of a Broadway Artist first-hand. We have created programming and tools to increase your knowledge of and support for the needs of a developing performer.

Parents are welcome to join our welcome seminar and closing sharecase, as well as a parents-only Q&A with Robert Hartwell to address your burning questions about the industry.

I’m not sure I have what it takes to be a Broadway performer. How do I know if I’ve got enough talent? Is HELLO BROADWAY a good idea for someone like me, or is it pointless?

As a famous athlete once said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

If you dream about being on Broadway, then we urge you to take your dream seriously. Work hard. Go for it.

Many of the top Broadway performers aren’t necessarily the most talented. They’re the most dedicated. They’re the ones who work hard, train daily, and refuse to give up.

There’s no way of predicting exactly what the future will hold. And even if your life ultimately takes you in other directions—composing, choreography, directing, producing, or a career outside of the performing arts—the confidence and skills that you build inside HELLO BROADWAY will set you up for success.

I can’t afford HELLO BROADWAY. Do you offer any discounts or scholarships?

No, we don’t. We have a kid named Jack who’s enrolled in HELLO BROADWAY right now. His family couldn’t afford it, so Jack started mowing lawns after school until he earned the money by himself. He’s one of our most committed, hard-working students—and he recently booked the leading role in a regional theater production of Newsies. ( His first paying gig as a performer.)

Jack is fighting for his dream, even if it means working odd jobs on weekends and after school.

If money is tight, then we urge you to find your inner Jack. Be resourceful and find a way to gather the funds that you need. Do a bake sale. Mow a lawn. Make it happen. You'll be so proud that you did it. You’ve got to have skin in the game.

Who are some of the Broadway pros I'll be working with?

Inside HELLO BROADWAY, you’ll meet the most amazing coaches + mentors. Click here to see our coaches!

My life is already pretty busy. How much time do I need to set aside each week to participate in HELLO BROADWAY?

HELLO BROADWAY is a 12-month commitment with a new assignment to complete every week. We take off for major holidays.

After 12 months, if you've completed every single assignment, you receive a certificate of completion that you’re welcome to mention on your college applications and/or résumé.

Every student is different, but as a general guideline, we encourage you to set aside 2-4 hours a week to rehearse, post your assignment, and get feedback from your Broadway coach. If you can make even more time, great!

What if I enroll in HELLO BROADWAY but then I can’t keep going and I need to drop out?

Please don’t drop out. Please honor the commitment you’ve made to yourself, to your artistry, to your future career, and to our hardworking team of teachers and coaches. We’re showing up for you. Please show up for yourself, too. Don’t quit.

That being said, we understand that sometimes “life happens” and sometimes illnesses, moving, school and family changes can disrupt your schedule. If you’re falling behind, you can request a little more time to catch up on your assignments. We can give you a 2-month extension—free of charge. You won’t receive coaching or feedback during these extra 2 months, but you’ll still be able to log into the HELLO BROADWAY classroom to post your assignments and get caught up.

HELLO BROADWAY sounds amazing, but I’d prefer to do training in person—not online. Do you have any other programs?

Yes! Check out our revamped master class for 2019/2020 Hello Broadway Live a full-day master class in NYC + 1 month of free Hello Broadway to prep, and our annual GATHERED event also in New York City. We love the Internet, but we’d love to see your face in the offline world, too.

Hello Broadway Incubator FAQ

Is this program right for me?

Before you buy a car, you take it for a test drive.
Before you purchase Broadway show tickets, you read the reviews.
Before you get a gym membership, you do a two-week trial period.

Common sense, right?

And yet, so many students invest $200,000 in a 4-year college Musical Theatre BFA degree before testing to see if this investment actually makes sense.

My advice: Test before you invest.

Really test your commitment level. Are you 100% committed to pursuing a career in the performing arts—or just halfway committed? Are you willing to wake up at 6 am for extra training? Are you willing to wash cars and mow lawns to earn money for private voice lessons? Are you willing to carve a few extra hours every week to work on your weak areas and give yourself that competitive edge? If not, that is okay! There is another beautiful career out there for you! But I’d rather you have that information now—rather than several years from now when you’re drowning in student loan debt with a degree you couldn’t commit to.

One way to test your Musical Theatre training commitment level is by enrolling in Hello Broadway Incubator.
