Current Education

A

Your current arts education is at a solid starting point, but we’ve got some notes and ideas that will make you even more competitive.

  • I see you're in [#] grade. That's awesome!
    • Middle school is the perfect time to start exploring what it is that you love and trying new things. And with how competitive the professional Broadway scene is, it's a VERY good thing you're starting your training now.
  • Many of our Hello Broadway Students are homeschooled so if you decide to join us you'll be in great company!
    • Hello Broadway is a fantastic opportunity to meet, connect and learn from other Broadway bound performers just like you!
  • None of your local teachers have performed on Broadway. Let me ask you a question… Would you let a 5th grader tutor you for AP Calculus? No, right? Because they’ve never taken AP Calculus!
    • I’m sure your local teachers are phenomenal, but if you’re serious about being on Broadway, doesn’t it make sense to learn from people who have actually… been on Broadway? Our Hello Broadway instructors have collectively been in over 150 Broadway shows and 85% of them have degrees in Theater or Musical Theater. Many of them are CURRENTLY on Broadway and fully up-to-date and “in the know” about the latest shows, trends and opportunities -- something to think about!

    Performance Skills

    A

    Your performance skills and work ethic are at a solid starting point, but you need to really level up if you want to be a highly competitive Broadway performer.

  • You’re primarily a singer, which is a great place to start! But your vocal chops alone won’t get you onto a Broadway stage. While most successful Broadway performers are triple threats (they can sing, dance AND act like no one’s business!), they didn’t all start that way.
    • We’ve helped many talented singers strengthen their dance and acting skills in Hello Broadway. If you dred presenting a monologue or find yourself hiding in the back of dance classes, you’re not alone! Join Hello Broadway and get the tools and skills you need to excel in every category and become the triple threat you know you can be.

  • Congrats on being paid to perform! That’s a promising starting point, but we can help you land even more competitive professional gigs. Are you ready to set your sights on even bigger opportunities? It’ll take hard work, dedicated practice, and some connections in the industry, but we can help get you there!
  • I see you’ve landed 1 lead role. Now it’s time to align yourself with teachers and mentors that will push your skills to the next level and give you a competitive edge, even in NYC.

  • I see you’re getting performance skills training in a private setting. That’s a solid start! But you’re probably not getting the connections and support you really need to perform at the Broadway level.
  • You’re clocking in less than 5 hours/week in performing arts training. I gotta be honest with you boo, that is not going to cut it. Our seriously competitive performers are training wayyyy more than you are. If you really want to be on Broadway one day, we need to double, maybe even triple, those hours.

    You’ve got emotional, financial, and community support for your Musical Theatre career which is solid, but there are still a few gaps.

  • You’ve got financial and emotional support for achieving your dreams and that’s HUGE! Now it’s time to think about fostering real-world Broadway connections and meeting other Broadway bound students like yourself!
  • Also, I see you identify as a male which is honestly just awesome because we have TONS of male identifying instructors and Broadway role models for you to learn from! Is that an option in your current arts education? If you decide to join any of our TBC programs, you'll train with high achieving male talent and trust me, as a male who's been on Broadway, that's so important!

    • Next Steps

    So to recap, here’s what I know about you...

  • You're very serious about your Broadway future and want to get into a Musical Theatre BFA program. We love that about you! But you should know that statistically, getting into a BFA program is more competitive than getting into Harvard. There's a LOT more to it than just being a great singer, actor or dancer.
  • For example, your grades matter a LOT. More than you think. I see you currently have a [INSERT GPA]. That’s a solid start! But we need to keep those grades up if you want to be a competitive BFA candidate.

    • Since you’re a Junior...

    Since you're a Junior interested in applying for a BFA program, we recommend you join Prescreen Prep ASAP. Just like prepping for the ACT or SAT, you need to start prepping for your BFA applications and auditions NOW.
